11月19日、アメリカの広い範囲でこの時期としては異例な寒波に見舞われ、ニューヨーク州は記録的な大雪となった。NBCなどによると、同州西部のバファローの一部では、1.8メートルの積雪で立ち往生する車が続出。救急車も現場に辿りつけないなどの被害が発生し、クオモ知事は非常事態を宣言して州兵を降雪地帯に派遣した。
