国連難民高等弁務官事務所（UNHCR）特使で女優のアンジェリーナ・ジョリーさんは8月1日、訪問先のミャンマーで、最大野党・国民民主連盟（NLD）党首のアウンサンスーチー氏と会談した。時事ドットコムなどが報じた。
ジョリーさんのミャンマー訪問は初めて。在ミャンマー英大使館によれば、訪問はスー・チー氏の招待で実現した。７月２９日からの滞在中、首都ネピドーでテイン・セイン大統領と会談したほか、政府と少数民族武装勢力との衝突が起きた北部カチン州の性暴力被害者らと面会した。

2人は最大都市ヤンゴン郊外にある縫製工場を訪れ、女性従業員から労働環境や生活などについて話を聞いた。ジョリーさんは7月末からミャンマーに滞在し、性的虐待の被害に遭った女性とも面会した。
ミャンマーでは、イスラム系少数民族ロヒンギャへの迫害が問題となっているが、ジェリーさんはロヒンギャ族が多く住む西部ラカイン州へは訪問できそうではないという。
